Black-and-white, 50 shades of grey and red, and silver flashes for some glamourous hints.
Red poppies are not only a symbol of remembrance and hope for a peaceful future but also of grace and beauty, especially contrasting to the colors in the whole canvas. The red and the black can be found not only in Stendhal's famous psychological novel but also here - in my painting.
The painting is finished with a double layer of varnish.

  • E. V. (Elka Veselinova).

Till the age of 57, I never painted. Neither did I take any drawing or painting lessons. My life changed dramatically with the death of my husband. I was so devastated that I had no idea how I should continue living without him. And here the painting came – the art therapy which helps me deal with the pain and emotions, with all those endless monologues and thoughts struggling in my mind and heart.

As I am not a professional artist, I do not have my own style. On the contrary, I keep on experimenting with various styles and types of media – oil pastels, oil, acrylic, foil leaves, structure paste, even painting with wool. So far, I have had one solo exhibition in Bulgaria, and I am regularly taking part in general exhibitions. In addition, two of my paintings were rewarded at the Golden Time Talent International Competition. I also had already some of my paintings exhibited in the Golden Duck Gallery for the CristmArt and Art Deco II exhibitions.

Now, being a pensioner, I guess that this is painting which makes my life meaningful and worth living.
